Evidence 1: UBD Lesson plan Food Specialties - Cake Decorating

Rationale 1: In this fun unit on cake decorating, I have incorporated many different learning styles into the unit. Students learn the art of decorating cakes from personal demonstrations, online webquests, personal practice, Wilton cake decorating video and guest speakers. The hands-on end project promotes self expression, students with disabilities and exceptionalities have as much ability to showcase these techniques as a regular student.

Skills 3.S.1 The teacher identifies and designs instruction appropriate to students’ stages of development, learning styles, strengths, and needs.

Food classes generally have a large variety of student developmental strengths and needs mixed in the class list. Disposition 3.D.3 The teacher respects students as individuals with differing personal and family backgrounds and various skills, talents, and interests.

The end project of a decorated cake enhances the respect the teacher shows to the individual student as they plan their final project of a decorated cake.
